The Canadian Cancer Society offers practical assistance and emotional support services through its Patient Services programs, a wide variety of breast cancer information, and public education presentations on breast health. And one of the tools on the CCS website is a searachable online community services directory.

Patient Services Programs

Many services are available through the Canadian Cancer Society, as well as opportunites to share your experience through volunteering. Here are some of the programs that are active in the province:

  • Daffodil Place: accommodation in St. John's for people having to travel more than 50 kilometres for treatment and cancer-related appointments. The 24-bed facility can provide meals as well as transportation to and from appointments
  • Patient Financial Assistance program
  • Volunteer Driving Program:  if you require assistance to get to and from cancer treatments or appointments, volunteer drivers may be available in your area to help
  • CanSurmount: one-to-one visiting for mastectomy or lumpectomy patients
  • Mastectomy kits (temporary prosthesis, exercise equipment and pamphlets), wigs and turbans, temporary use of wheelchairs, commodes and walkers
  • Roots of Support: face-to-face support groups meet in many communities. Check our calendar or contact the CCS office in your region
  • CancerConnection:  one-to-one support over the telephone with a matched cancer survivor or caregiver. Contact the CancerConnection Coordinator at 1-800-263-6750. A volunteer will contact you within 48 hours of the request
  • Cancer Information Service: toll-free telephone assistance with your questions about cancer, Monday to Friday 9 am - 6pm at 1-888-939-3333
