LYMPHEDEMA TREATMENT & MASSAGE THERAPY
Secondary lymphedema is a condition that some breast cancer patients
develop after treatment because of damage to the lymphatic system. Treatment
may include a specialized form of
massage called Manual Lymphatic Drainage, compression therapy and
prescribed exercise. This combined approach is called complex
or complete decongestive therapy. It is practised by certified
lymphedema physiotherapists and therapists.
Massage therapy is the manipulation of the body's soft tissues to promote health, to rehabilitate, to relax, and to relieve pain. Some massage therapists are also certified lymphedema therapists.
